Do It Your Way

Posted in Uncategorized by vinylrecordsunc on September 16, 2008

I had the pleasure of having dinner with Billy Collins this evening in Chapel Hill. The former United States Poet Laureate was in town to do a reading, and I was able to spend a good deal of time with him. Much of the conversation focused on music, and it was interesting to hear his thoughts and tastes. He’s a big fan of the John Coltrane & Johnny Hartman album (I strongly recommend it too, for what that’s worth), and we talked about how he wrote the introduction to a book of lost Bob Dylan poems from the 60’s that is coming out soon. However, the most interesting moment of music talk was when Collins professed his love of Sid Vicious’ cover of “My Way.” The author called the Sid Vicious version, “the ultimate cover song,” because the old Sex Pistols bassist is really doing it his way. Check out the video:

Other than that, take care, and keep your ears perked for all the great music around.
