Russian Rappers…oh yea

Posted in Uncategorized by vinylrecordsunc on September 23, 2008

I am taking a couple of classes about Russia this semester. The classes themselves are of course overly complicated and lack any brevity what-so-ever, but in my Russian 101 class the other day, our professor introduced us to some Russian music. It’s pretty great. And by great, I mean hilarious.

I think one of my new Russian favorites is this guy:

His rapper name is Timati, I have no idea what his real name is. This song translates to “In the Club.” It’s basically like “Where are all the hot women?” “We have them here…IN THE CLUB.” Or something like that.

Ligalaiz (Legalize…obviously) is also pretty awesome. You can find him here…

Here’s a list of famous Russian musicians for you guys to explore yourselves on YouTube or Ruckus or something.

Kino (The U2 of Russia…but of course not nearly as awesome)

Vladimir Visotsky (Russian troubadour…actually kind of scary.)

Pyatnitsa (I actually really do like these guys. Look into their song “Soldat.”)

DIP Project & Infinity (Euro dance trash. Pretty great.)

Zemfira (90’s)

Nautilus Paumpilius (Nice strings…kind of good.)

Splin (The song I know by them is very dark and sad. Very Russian. I don’t like the guys voice very much. Kind of reminds me of Celine Dion’s genr for some reason.)

Del’fin- They’re so fun I’m throwing in a link
