Elvis has left the building…
Last night was a testament to the talent that we have here at UNC, a fresh homegrown musical smorgasboard. I was blown away by the quality of the 6 performances by (in order of appearance) Shannon McArthur, Apollo, Lafcadio, Lake Inferior, Jacquelyn Lee, and The Huguenots. The Cabaret was full to capacity, the crowds danced and swayed and waved their hands in the air like they just didn’t care, the atmosphere was electric.
It was one of those situations where everything came together just right. Serendipity. Tech ran smoothly, thanks to the tireless efforts of the Union Staff and most of all David Harper, our family tech wiz. And hugs and kisses are certainly in order for our very own team DJ, the Crush Mixers (DJ Sereal, DJGJ, and DJ Gooberghan), who turned the time in between sets into a rockin’ sock hop of a good time. Energy, that was the word thunderbird.
The artists gave it their all and it showed, and with so many different sounds to experience, the real treat for them I think was the continued cheering and dancing and enthusiasm that they were met with. We of the Vinyl Family want to thank you for being such an inspiring audience and for showing up and being there when it mattered to these bands who are students just like you and me.
So no matter who you loved, who shattered your preconceived notions about the campus music scene, or who you’re friends with its essential that you vote for the two acts that you want to see more of, because thats exactly what will happen. Those two artists with the most votes will get gigs on and off campus, adivce on artistic direction, time in the studio and much more. The polls will stay open till Monday at midnight…Vote or Die! www.unc.edu/~youngc/vinylrecords
Once again thanks to the Union staff who helped with the show, to the Vinyl Family for being so darn wonderful, to the artists for bringing the heat and the phenomenal tunes, and to you UNC for being there and voting. Stay tuned for a downloadable version of the show if you couldn’t make it out, to be posted here soon.
As always One Love,
over and out
