Download Titus Andronicus Live at Music Hall of Williamsburg (6/6/09)
Titus Andronicus is one of Shakespeare’s earliest tragedies.
Its also the name of a group of four dirty Jersey Boys that create massively thick walls of hardcore shoegazing rock music that lyrically expresses disdain for the “system” / “machine” / “man” and searches for a meaningful existence in a mucky sea of depression, ignorance, and oblivious bystanders.
Not straying far from their English namesake’s own literary intents, Titus Andronicus’ angsty/artsy persona and brute musical force has allowed them to quickly gain nods from some of indie rock’s most acclaimed critical circles.
Their most recent album “The Airing of Grievances” was released via XL’s Merok Records subsidary this past January. For any of us who have a secret place in our hearts for catchy emo/pop-punk rhyme schemes and seemingly metaphorical but possibly bullshit lyrics, while demanding a more developed, or at the very least overwhelming, sound packaged alongside, Titus Andronicus is a must listen. Don’t worry if its not your favorite record, because it probably won’t be, but give it an escuchando and pretend you’re a literary buff/English major, too. And if you get the opportunity, tell Milo and Chris at Merok that they should give the group a second chance/album.
